Greystone's Weekly Picks 2-18-09

Welcome everyone to Greystone's Weekly Picks!
For those of you curious enough to read this and are wondering perhaps what exactly my blogs are about, you're in luck cause this being my first blog on Blogger.com I'm going to tell you.

But before I explain what Greystone's Weekly Picks is I think it would help to understand a little bit about myself or at least my interests. Pretty much some of the things i love most about this life are comics, movies, and video games. Of course my girlfriend would be added as well as many other things but that doesn't really have to do with what i wanna share with you on my blogs. I'm currently a full-time student at a technical college in a couple computer courses; one of which the instructor told us to make ourselves a blog which i figured i would never use in my life. I recently became a big fan of YouTube and particularly one of the users i subscribed to was Peter Rallis on Movie Buzz. Then it recently hit me like a kick in the nuts...why don't i use my blog to convey my personal interests by reviewing comics, movies, and video games for those others out there interested in them like myself.

Thus was born Greystone's Weekly Picks. Granted, I'll prolly have multiple blogs with multiple titles, instead of trying to cram all of that info into one weekly blog. Basically Greystone's Weekly Picks will be me telling you which comics coming out during the week, ones that I'm personally looking forward to and some you may wanna be on the look out for as well. I'll have separate blogs dealin
g with movies, video games, and my actual reviews of the comics i decided to pick up that month. Prolly need to come up with some catchy names like Greystone's Flicks, Gaming with Greystone, and Greystone's Monthly Reviews.

With out further a do.

Greystone's Weekly Picks!

This week in the DC universe i catch my first glimpse of perhaps a new over arching storyline titled "Origins & Omens." Now I've yet to really find out what this new series intels except to see some of the comics that it will be bridging over to. For what DC claims as a complete checklist here is the link
"http://www.dccomics.com/media/special/Origins_and_Omens_Checklist.pdf".

The Origins & Omens tie-ins coming out this week are:
  • Birds of Prey #127
  • Justice League of America #30
  • The Outsiders #15
  • Robin #183
  • Supergirl #38
  • Vigilante #3

Now for those of you who read comics and don't know what's going on with Batman right now you prolly find your comics at a jockey lot. But basically it's a big thing about the death of Batman. OH NO!!! Did i spoil something for you? Mean really...how often do you people seriously take death's in comics? For a comic reader to take character deaths seriously is like a 3 year old believing Santa does really exist. Crap i think i just spoiled that too. Well I'm off to a great start. But seriously i think we need to take a running toll on how long it'll be before DC raises the Dark Knight like he's Jean Grey. I mean he's one of/if not DC's #1 prize. They'd be better off selling their company now if it were true.

Honestly i prolly won't be picking up any of those because personally I've found it very hard to get into DC comics but I'm really trying to. I guess I'm more of a Marvel fanboy but don't get me wrong i love DC as well.

Speaking of Marvel lets see what interesting things they have for us this week.

Amazing Spider-man #583 (5th Printing): is coming out if you haven't already picked up your copy of Spider-man meets Obama. The newly elected President says he used to read Spider-man and all of a sudden he's in his very own issue. Mean I've loved Spider-man since i was a kid but you don't see me getting my page of fame. Granted being the first African-American President might have a smidge to do with it.

Dark Avengers #2: going to definitely try and check this out but I'm also gonna try and keep up with all the major and minor story arch's of Dark Reign. Now that is a story i don't wanna spoil.

Spider-man Noir #3: this is another series I'm itching to get my fingers on, cause I've recently discovered a lot of the genre things i enjoy movies, games, etc. are classified under noir and so now I'm kind of fascinated.

Ultimate Fantastic Four #60: i had such high hopes for this series when it first started off and really loved it for the first some odd issues but then the stories became like most all FF comics that i dislike. Although it's kind of sad to see the series coming to a close, i think it's the right thing to do. Lets hope it goes out with a bang.

Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk #2 (All-new Printing): something I'll always be honest about is how much i dislike Wolverine. That's right you heard someone actually say they dislike the universes favorite character ever. Honestly, i don't not like the character; just the hype he's gotten and how much crap they try to sell just by slapping his name in the title or picture on the cover. This series however is not one of those pieces of crap. Granted back when issues 1 and 2 were first published in '06 it frustrated me to no end when they suddenly stopped the series with no explanations or anything...just simply made #2 and then NOTHING! They even made references to it in some other Wolverine issues which really pissed me off to reference something that they didn't even finish. Personally i think it was cause they had finally screwed Wolverine so bad that they couldn't reasonably come up with any way to save it, which is partially why i love the Hulk so much.

Uncanny X-men #506: unfortunately for some odd reason most of the X-men series have been turning to crap and i can't think of really any logical reason behind it. I mean they were going pretty good i thought with the whole Messiah Complex but then after that it hit the fan. So I'm hoping they can find someone to bring back the X-men i always loved.

X-Factor #40: I've gotta say that Jamie Madrox is one of my most favorite comic characters. He's pretty much the sole reason i read X-Factor. I mean i love the character, i love his powers, there's nothing not to love. Nothing except the series going down hill. Again it's like the series hit it's pick at Messiah and then took somewhat of a noise dive.

X-men Kingbreaker #3: this series deals with another of my top favorite characters and that's the all powerful Black Bolt. Granted this particular series might not have anything to do with him but it ties into the War of Kings battle going on between the Shi'ar and the Inhumans. Kick their @$$ Black Bolt.

X-men Legacy #221: lastly yet another X-men series. Not sure if you can tell but the X-men are pretty much my reason for reading Marvel...not entirely but a big portion of it. Although Legacy hasn't been doing quite as bad as Uncanny, in my opinion, it's still nothing really to shack a stick at at this point but i continue following them in a desperate attempt to see the return of the series i once loved so much.

Well that's my picks for this week. What's yours?

Also which is your favorite cover of 2-18-09. I'd have to say it's a toss up between Marvel Adventures: The Avengers #33 and Marvel Adventures Two-in-one #20.

Until next week.
